The group
Nickelback's song "Never Gonna Be Alone" is a song about commitment.
Realizing that he has not given
the commitment to another like he should have, the person in the song
vows to never forget it in the future. He says that life is too short
not to realize the meaning of the commitment. The
group
could be speaking of the commitment of a man and woman in marriage, or
a father to
a daughter as in the video of the song, or a friend to another friend.
Making a commitment is a serious matter and must never be taken lightly.
Perhaps the greatest hope for a Christian person is that Jesus understood commitment to the people who would adopt his way of life. Jesus who the Christian believes is God told his followers: "I will not leave you orphans." God will be with us through thick and thin, in good times and in bad, always there, even when all hope is gone. God will be there all the way. Nickelback's song becomes the perfect teacher. If you are committed to someone, you must let the other person know that he/she will never be alone because you are there. You will never let the other fall, you will be there even when things are not going well, you will take the world on if the world is against you, you will hold the other until the hurt is no longer a hurt. You will always be there for the other. Always. In every way. Nickelback's song teaches what commitment means. If our world would learn it and live it, our lives would be better. |

and gracious
God, your Son told us that you are committed to us. It is a great
source of joy for us. May we learn from you as well--give us the grace
to understand commitment so that we can be committed to others. Be with

we pray.
