In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He
was in the beginning with God. All things
came to be through him, and
without him nothing came to be. What
came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the
human race;
the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. He was in the world, and the world came to be
through him, but the world did not know him. He
came to what was his own, but his own people did not accept him. But to those who did accept him he gave power
to become children of God, to those who believe in his name, who were
born not
by natural generation nor by human choice nor by a man’s decision
but of
God. And the Word became flesh and made
his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the
Father’s only
Son, full of grace and truth.

"Isn’t
anyone trying to find me? Won’t
somebody
come take me home. It’s a damn cold
night, trying to figure out this life. Won’t
you take me by the hand. Take me somewhere
new. I don’t
know who you are, but I’m with you. I’m
looking for a place; I’m searching for a face. Is
anybody here I know, ‘cause nothing’s going right and
everything’s a
mess. And no one likes to be alone."

One
of the most hopeful verses in all of Scripture is the verse in
John’s Gospel:
“And the Word became flesh, and made his dwelling among
us.” It is hopeful because now the human believer
has a divine connection. God actually
became a human being, and has come to find us, and help us figure out
this
life.
Avril Lavigne’s question in her song “I’m With You,” namely, "Isn't anyone trying to find me?" is actually the question that God answers in the first verses of the Gospel of John. The question deals with trying to find someone who will lead, someone who will take us to our true home. The question involves the hard cold fact that life is difficult, and it is not easy at all to find the way. Addressing the desire to have someone lead us, the song begs for someone who truly knows us, and is willing to be with us. The song can be looked at as the fundamental question of young teenagers in our world. They continually ask for guidance and help, begging the modern world to give it to them. Parents and grandparents and youth mentors must answer well so that the young person's life can begin well. The song can also be looked at as a prayer, asking God to help us in our daily lives. The beauty of Christianity is that God answers us in an incredibly perfect way in the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus has become human and says “I’m with you.” |

THOUGHT
In
your opinion, what is Jesus’ principal doctrine and why?
PRAYER Good
and gracious God, what an immense privilege it is for us to understand
that you have become
flesh in your Son Jesus. May we always
realize
that Jesus is a true guide for us, and may we always follow where he
leads. Be with us, we pray.
